The Language of Feeling

The Language of Feeling is an immersive installation designed to help visitors deepen their understanding of primary emotions through touch, sight, and sound. Drawing from Plutchik’s Wheel of Emotions, the installation explores eight fundamental emotions—Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, Surprise, Disgust, Trust, and Anticipation—each represented by bold typography and vibrant colors. This visual language serves as an entry point into the exhibition, inviting visitors to begin their emotional awareness journey by reflecting on their current emotional state.

The core question of the installation, “What emotion do you feel today?” encourages introspection and active participation. Each emotion is paired with a touch-sensitive star that, when activated, plays an audio definition of the emotion, providing visitors with deeper knowledge of each feeling. This multisensory experience transforms passive observation into an interactive process, prompting visitors to engage with the emotions they encounter and to explore their own emotional responses.

By understanding Plutchik’s Wheel and how the primary emotions are connected, visitors can begin to recognize, label, and understand their emotional states with greater clarity. This process encourages emotional literacy and lays the foundation for deeper self-awareness. The Language of Feeling serves as the first step in a journey of emotional exploration, inviting participants to engage with their emotions, trace their origins, and build a healthier, more empathetic relationship with themselves and others. Through interactive participation, visitors start the process of emotional discovery, transforming emotional learning into a reflective, participatory experience.
